Shih Tzu and Furbaby Rescue Group is a membership-based dog rescue organization. They are based out of Georgia but service the entire east coast with members located from Florida to New England. They primarily focus their efforts on rescuing and finding homes for Shih Tzu’s or “Furbaby’s” as they like to call them. They first opened in 1997 when they found Annie, a blind 8-year old Shih Tzu from Jacksonville, Florida. Annie was a few weeks away from being euthanized however Furbaby Rescue Group fostered her and were given two weeks to find Annie a new home. They were able to, and Shih Tzu and Furbaby Rescue Group was born.
Today, Shih Tzu and Furbaby Rescue Group foster all kinds of dogs and have established partnerships with veterinarians in Florida and Georgia. They accept dogs from breeders, other rescue groups, shelters, and individuals who can’t take care of their dog anymore.
Every dog taken in is first examined by a vet, spayed or neutered, and vaccinated. Every dog must go through a vigorous behavioral test, which helps determine what kind of family is best for the dog and prepares possible homes for behavioral issues. Since 1997 Shih Tzu and Furbaby Rescue Group has grown to a national level and can provide their services to the United States.
Anthony Musilli is a member of Shih Tzu and Furbaby Rescue Group. Since 2005, he and his family have fostered over 30 dogs and rescued a Chinese crested dog via Furbaby Rescue Group. He continues to be an active fosterer and helps with transporting dogs to their new "forever" homes.
